The studio

Under the skin there's a story. We draw it with you, tattoo it with a steady hand and stay by your side until it's healed.

UnderSkin is a woman-owned tattoo and piercing studio on Calle de la Fenice. Our artists speak very different visual languages: bold traditional, Japanese, botanical fine line, pop colour, gold jewellery. Every project starts with a consultation and a custom-made design.

to healed skin.

Four steps, the same every time, for every custom tattoo.

Contact

Message the studio or the artist on Instagram, or use the form below. Tell us your idea, the placement and a rough size.

Consultation

We meet at the studio or chat online to settle style, size and placement. You get a quote and a date.

Session

Your design is finalised and tried on your skin with a stencil. We only start tattooing once you're happy with the placement.

Healing

You leave with aftercare instructions. In the weeks that follow, we're here for any questions.

Aftercare

Looking after it
once you're home.

The first few weeks decide how your piece will look for years. Here are the basics: your artist or piercer will give you advice specific to you.

  1. Wrap

    Keep the wrap on for as long as we tell you in the studio, then remove it with clean hands.

  2. Washing

    Lukewarm water and mild soap, two or three times a day. Pat dry with clean paper towel, don't rub.

  3. Cream

    A thin layer of aftercare cream after each wash. Go easy: your skin needs to breathe.

  4. No sun, sea or pool

    For about two weeks, keep the area away from direct sun, swimming, saunas and hard workouts.

  5. Don't scratch

    Flaking and itching are normal. Let the scabs fall off on their own so you don't lose colour.

Severe redness, increasing pain or fever: contact the studio and, if needed, a doctor.

Before you book

How do I book a tattoo?
The quickest way is a DM on Instagram to @underskinstudio: we usually reply within 2 hours during opening hours. You can also message the artist you like or fill in the form on this page, which puts together a message with everything we need. The wait for a tattoo is usually under two weeks.
How much does it cost?
Every piece gets its own quote, based on size, placement, detail and time. For an accurate estimate we need a reference photo and a rough size.
Which tattoo styles do you do, and who does them?
Traditional and old school, neo-traditional, blackwork, Japanese, colour, fine line, botanical, dotwork, realism, lettering and flash. Bertz does black and colour traditional; Genzo does colour traditional and neo-traditional and takes on all styles; Thian does black-and-white old school and blackwork from his hand-painted flash; Pamela does fine line, botanical and dotwork; Suely does the piercings. For Japanese, or if you are not sure who to ask, message us and we will point you to the right artist.
Do I need a deposit? How can I pay?
We don't ask for a deposit to book. At the studio you can pay by cash or card.
Can I bring my own idea or an image I found online?
Yes, bring it as a reference. The artist will redraw it in their own style and adapt it to your body. We don't copy other tattoo artists' work.
Do you do cover-ups?
Yes, but we assess them case by case. Send us a photo of the tattoo you want covered and tell us your idea: we'll let you know what's possible.
Can I come in without an appointment?
Yes, we take walk-ins for both piercings and tattoos, depending on availability that day. If you want a specific artist or piece of jewellery, message us first.
I'm only in Venice for a few days. Can I get a tattoo or a piercing?
Yes. We take walk-ins for tattoos and piercings depending on availability that day, and flash designs can be tattooed on the spot. If your dates are tight, DM us before you arrive with your idea, placement, size and the days you are in town. Remember that after a tattoo you should avoid direct sun, the sea and swimming pools for about two weeks.
What jewellery do you use for piercings? Do you have BVLA?
BVLA jewellery, and we're the only distributor in Venice: yellow and rose gold, titanium, zirconia, topaz and sapphires. The price list is only available in the studio, where you can see the pieces in stock and choose with Suely.
Which piercings do you do?
Suely pierces lobes (including curated ear compositions), helix and flat, conch, tragus and daith, nose, lip and navel. You choose the jewellery together in the studio, and the placement is planned around your anatomy before piercing.
I'm under 18. Can I get a tattoo or a piercing?
The rule is the same for tattoos and piercings: from 18 you can come on your own; under 18, only with a parent. Bring a photo ID.
What should I do on the day of my session?
Sleep well, eat before you come, skip alcohol the night before and bring a photo ID. Wear comfortable clothes that leave the area to be tattooed easy to reach.
How long does healing take?
A tattoo needs about two weeks of care: no direct sun, sea, swimming pools, saunas or hard workouts, and no scratching. For piercings, lobes heal in a few weeks while cartilage can take six months to a year; after a few weeks, drop by the studio for a check-up and a downsize.
Where is the studio and what are the opening hours?
On Calle de la Fenice, San Marco 1950, 30124 Venice, between Teatro La Fenice and Campo San Fantin. The nearest vaporetto stops are Santa Maria del Giglio and San Marco Vallaresso. Hours: Monday–Thursday 11:00–13:00 and 14:30–19:00; Friday 11:00–13:00 and 16:00–19:00; Saturday 11:00–13:00 and 14:30–18:00; Sunday closed. Hours may change on public holidays.
